Anthems

De Profundis. SATB chorus, piano, and organ. A setting of Psalm 130: "Out of the depths I cry to you, O Lord."

I Heard the Voice of Jesus Say. Mezzo-soprano soloist, small handbell ensemble (or Orff "tone-bar" instruments), and organ. Excellent for churches that wish to observe Lent but not with the stricter penitential tone that some congregations prefer; plus, its text and mood are suitable for nearly every Sunday of the year.

O Savior of the World. Mezzo-soprano soloist, SATB(div), optional organ. "Oh Savior of the world, who by his blood and the cross hath redeemed us." The text is from the Good Friday Veneration of the Cross, but can be used any time during Lent when you want to sing of the Passion.

Psalm 57. SATB chorus (optional divisi) with piano accompaniment. A dramatic setting of a psalm that offers to people of every faith the Lord's sustenance and comfort in the face of triibulation: "Have mercy on me, for my soul trusts in thee." This work of a larger scale than the others in this collection; it was commissioned for performance on Memorial Day 2006, at Ground Zero in New York City.

Surely He Hath Borne Our Griefs. S(div)ATBB a capella (or optional organ); an accompaniment for orchestra is also available. A setting of the traditional Lenten verses of Isaiah 53, in the style of the great nineteenth-century Russian composers. But even though it recalls the "big chorus" sound of the Russian masters, it can be as easily performed by a smal ensemble as a large one.

Communion Meditations

Do This and Remember Me. Two-part chorus (treble/bass) and keyboard. A meditation in a "light contemporary" style, suitable both for Lent and non-Lenten seasons. It is also ideal for introducing liturgical elements to "non-liturgical" churches.

Pange Lingua Gloriosi. SATB chorus with optional soprano and alto soloists, and organ. A gentle and sweetly mystical Communion meditation.

O Sacrum Convivium. Soprano solost, SATBB chorus (can be performed by soloist alone, or soloist with chorus) and organ. A simple and beautiful anthem extolling the mystery of the Eucharist, setting a text by St. Thomas Aquinas. This anthem is published by OCP, and is available in single copies or as part of their Holy Week octavo packet.
